Effect of Gazette Notice on Prescribed Electrical Work for Electrical Inspectors and Electrical Engineers
Concerns have been raised around the effect of the commencement dates for the Electrical Inspector and Electrical Engineer registration classes and the associated endorsed registration classes in the Electricity (Prescribed Classes of Registration for Electrical Workers) Notice 2023 (2023 Notice).
Electricity (Prescribed Classes of Registration for Electrical Workers) Notice 2023 (2023 Notice)
The registration classes in the 2023 Notice of Electrical Inspector and Electrical Engineer commenced on 1 September 2024. The Prescribed Electrical Work these classes may undertake excludes carrying out specified work (in a mining operation, hazardous area, medical cardiac protected electrical area, or mains parallel generation system) unless authorised by the appropriate endorsed class of registration. However, the associated endorsed classes of registration do not commence until 1 September 2025.
We are working quickly investigate these concerns and remedy any issues to ensure electrical workers can undertake required work.
What does this mean for you?
If you do not work in one of the endorsed areas (mining operations, hazardous areas, medical cardiac protected areas, or mains parallel generation systems) this does not impact you and the work you do.
If you are an Electrical Inspector or Electrical Engineer who has not renewed their licence after 1 September 2024 then you can continue working as you are – you are able to perform Prescribed Electrical Work as provided by the 2019 notices:
If you have renewed your licence since 1 September 2024 or apply for renewal or a new licence, we will be in touch with you directly about how this might impact you.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
