Important changes for all Registered Electrical Workers

As of 1 September 2024, a new Electrical Worker (EW) registration framework comes into effect. This is something all licensed EWs need to be aware of.

The new stepped framework will better outline Registration and Licensing requirements for EWs. The framework also introduces new classes of Registration and competency requirements.

These changes include:

  • Changes to the requirements for Registration classes.
  • Changes to the limits of work for each class of Registration, to be more in line with the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010.
  • New endorsed classes of Registration to recognise the unique risks in particular working environments, including medical cardiac protected areas, hazardous areas, mains parallel generation systems, mining operations and supervision.
  • A new way for Electrical Workers to progress through Registration classes and the industry.

If you are a current Registered and Licensed Electrical Worker, you will have the opportunity to transition into the new framework so you can continue to carry out the work you do. Find out more below.
