Prosecution - EWRB v Sagoo
On 12 February 2021, Ajit Sagoo was sentenced on one charge of carrying out prescribed electrical work when not authorised. In June 2019, Mr Sagoo, a landlord, visited out of his tenanted properties to replace a non-functional stove. Mr Sagoo disconnected the old stove and connected the second stove’s TPS cable directly to the mains power, as well as connecting the wires within the TPS cable to the terminals in the termination block and tightening the stud for each conductor on the terminals in the termination block. Mr Sagoo was not appropriately licensed to carry out prescribed electrical work under the Electricity Act 1992. He was sentenced in the Hamilton District Court and fined $2,200, along with Court and solicitor’s costs.
