Apply for a Trainee Limited Certificate
How to apply for a Trainee Limited Certificate to complete work experience for EWRB Registration New Zealand pathway.
To apply for a Trainee Limited Certificate, you will need a completed and signed supervision declaration form from the registered and licensed electrical worker who will supervise you.
Documents required
You must provide the following documents in your application.
Supervision declaration form
A completed and signed supervision declaration form from the Registered and licensed electrical worker who will supervise you.
Certified proof of identity
- A certified copy of the front and back of your current New Zealand Driver Licence; or
- A certified copy of your current Passport biographic page.

*Certified: Certification of your copied documents must be done by either a Justice of the Peace, a Public Notary, a Solicitor or NZ Court Registrar. The official confirmation that the copies of your documents are identical to the original documents. The confirmation is issued by an authorised public authority or a Notary.

Payment details
You can pay for your application by credit or debit card. All payments made outside the New Zealand banking system must be made by credit card.
Application processing timeframes
Once we have received your application and it is deemed complete, your application should be processed within 20 working days.
Next steps
Once your application has been completed and approved, you will receive:
- A Trainee Limited Certificate approval email with your requirements to complete registration
- Your Trainee Limited Certificate Digital Licence.
Completing safety training
You must complete Safety Training within three months of being issued your Trainee Limited Certificate, covering safe working practices, testing, CPR and basic first aid.
