Mr Collings was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay costs in the District Court in Hamilton on a charge of carrying out prescribed electrical work when not authorised.

EWRB v Duncan Bennett
Mr Bennett was fined $7,650 and ordered to pay costs if $250 and court costs in the District Court in Auckland. Reparation of $1,417 was also ordered to be paid to the homeowner for remedial work that had to be carried out.

Mr Woodhouse was sentenced at Porirua District Court for performing unauthorised prescribed electrical work which included the installation of lights, power points and an outside water heater at a property in Mana.

The Board laid a charge against Mr Zou, director of Airon Ltd, after receiving a complaint about electrical work that he had carried out involving the installation of heat pumps.

The Electricity and Gas High-risk Database holds records of gas and electrical work that has been classified as high-risk. This database was created on 1 July 2013 and is administered by Energy Safety, a division of WorkSafe.

Time and client pressures - safety comes first
The Board often hears from electrical workers that the reason behind them doing non-compliant work was that they were under pressure from a client or that they let their standards slip because of general work pressures.

Gazette Notice updates
In April this year, two Gazette notices were published, replacing 2017 Notices containing errors. The Notices have been updated in relation to clarifying Electrical Service Technician (EST) limits of work and other minor errors

Prosecution - EWRB v David Gardner
In April and May 2017 David Gardner installed fourteen heat pumps in the Waikato Region. This involved prescribed electrical (PEW) work which Mr Gardner was not registered or licenced to carry out.
